Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a 3000-year-old medicine originating from Ancient China. We use extremely fine needles in specific locations all over the body to treat various physical and mental conditions. Nothing is added through the needles, instead the stimulation of these points promotes your body’s natural ability to heal itself and rebalance.

Chinese Medicine theory views the body holistically, so your practitioner may ask you questions about all areas and workings of the body. This allows us to form a treatment plan and point prescription that is specific to your body and its unique needs.

While many patients find us to support them with recovery, Chinese Medicine places an important emphasis on preventing disease and keeping the body healthy.

FAQs

  • Initial consultations cost £90 and can last between 60-90 minutes depending on the complexity of your conditions and the length of treatment required.

Follow up appointments last between 45-60 minutes and cost £60.

All additional treatments I might use in your session are included in the price.

  • The most common misconception about acupuncture is the size of the needles. If you are imagining scary hospital needles, stop! Our needles are as fine as a strand of hair and many people do not even feel them as they enter the body.

We may use some techniques to stimulate the acupuncture points, many people describe this sensation as a tingling, warmth, electrical or similar. There should be no pain during your treatment.

  • The amount of treatments you will need will depend completely on the condition you are coming with, how long you have had it, and your body’s unique ability to heal.

Many patients receive a treatment once or twice a week for 4-12 treatments. Then once their body has adjusted to the new pattern, many people come fortnightly or monthly to maintain their health, prevent relapse and just because they enjoy it!

  • The simple answer is, absolutely! Acupuncture can be extremely helpful for easing symptoms during pregnancy, preparing the body for birth and during labour. We have an adjustable couch and the tools to make you comfortable at all stages of your pregnancy.

If you are trying to conceive or are pregnant, please let your practitioner know as there are some points that are contraindicated during pregnancy.

    • Please ensure you have a substantial meal some time before your appointment, do not arrive with an empty stomach! Stay hydrated during the day.

    • Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes if possible, if they can roll up to the elbows and knees easily that is perfect.

If possible, arrive 15-5 mins before your treatment time. We have some delicious herbal teas in our waiting room, so help yourself and allow some time to relax after your travel instead of rushing straight onto the treatment bed!

  • Acupuncture can affect each person differently. Some people feel very energised, some relaxed and some feel tired, especially if it is your first time having acupuncture.

Please take note of how you feel and let your practitioner know. If you are able to take some time off to relax and enjoy the after-effects of your treatment, we recommend you do so. It is best to avoid intense exercise, alcohol and drugs after, as this will negate the effects of your treatment.

  • Please inform your practitioner of any delay, if possible. Your session may be cancelled if they have not heard from you within 15 minutes of the agreed appointment time. Late arrival may result in reduced treatment time or forfeiting of the appointment if it is not feasible to start the session. Where possible, your practitioner will do all they can to provide a treatment for you.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact us. We operate a 24 hour cancellation policy and failure to cancel or rearrange before the 24 hours will result in the loss of the treatment and a charge of the full cost of treatment.

  • Please check with your health provider before your appointment about what your insurance covers. It may be able to cover the cost of your treatments.

You will be responsible for paying after your treatment, and we will provide you with the receipts you need to claim the amount back with your insurance provider.

What conditions can Acupuncture help with?

  • Physical Health

Acupuncture is used for pain relief in muscular and joint conditions, as well as for internal pain and conditions. Top to toe, internal organs to the skin and muscles, acupuncture has an influence over the entire body.

  • Mental Health

Acupuncture works with the whole body, including the mind. Patients with sleep and fatigue conditions, and patients with mental health struggles have found relief through acupuncture.

  • Emotional Health

In Chinese Medicine, the emotions have an important influence on our body. Acupuncture can assist in the physical release of unresolved trauma, stress, burnout, grief, and improve your ability to cope.

Kate Levinson

BSc (Hons), LicAc, MBAcC

I graduated from The City College of Acupuncture in London with First Class Honours, achieving my License to practice Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).

While I am fascinated by all areas of health and will treat any and every condition that comes through my door, my area of special interest is complex mental-emotional cases and disease stemming from trauma.

Before I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, I gained a degree in Psychology (BSc Hons) and worked as an Assistant Psychologist. The desire to help people, understanding how emotions affect the body physically, and exploring the complexities that make up a person, are all elements that drew me to the study of both Psychology and Chinese Medicine.

I volunteered as part of the Ukrainian Support Project providing trauma relief through ear acupuncture to refugees in the UK. I also have a Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language and feel passionately about making acupuncture more accessible to the Deaf and Hearing Impaired community. For more information, please feel free to contact me.
